| 講義概要 | 研究各論（南アジア文化研究） Music Cultures of South Asia This class will introduce students to the music, dance, and musical drama traditions of South Asia, in particular those of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The goal is to gain an understanding of the sounds, instruments, performing techniques, theories, styles, histories, and meanings associated with some of the many performing arts genres of this region. Through lectures, recorded music examples, videos, photographs, reading, and live demonstrations, students will learn about the musical performing arts of South Asia and their cultural context, including the relationships between music and language, history, ritual, dance, and drama. The course content will include not only "traditional" music styles, but also "popular" music styles that have emerged in modern times in response to colonialism, technological change, and the spread of consumer cultures. |
